The acclaimed game developer Bethesda has issued an announcement to Elder Scrolls fans, saying that significant updates regarding the upcoming installment are not likely.

The long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed during E3 2018 via a brief teaser clip, confirming its early development within Bethesda Game Studios. During the same occasion, Starfield, a science fiction role-playing game, was also revealed. Notably, Starfield was given priority in the release schedule over the fantasy-based Elder Scrolls 6.

Following a series of delays, Starfield is due to premiere this week, satisfying the intense anticipation of pre-order buyers. This shift in focus sets Elder Scrolls 6 as the studio's flagship title on the horizon, surpassing even Fallout 5's expectation.

Pete Hines, Bethesda's Head of Publishing, stated in an interview with the Spanish journal Vandal (as translated by GameSpot), that Elder Scrolls 6 is "still in its initial development phase." However, he warned fans not to expect any significant discoveries about the game until "several years after" the release of Starfield.

"It's safe to say that you shouldn't expect any significant Elder Scrolls 6 updates in the near future," Hines added. As of now, our major focus remains on Starfield, and it will remain so until we are ready to move on to other projects."

Todd Howard, the director of both Starfield and the Elder Scrolls series, recently addressed whether he regrets unveiling the fantasy sequel so soon. In response, Howard told GQ, "I've pondered that extensively." It's a difficult question to answer. In all likelihood, I would have made a more casual statement."

When asked about the future game's ambitions, Howard stated, "This is a difficult topic... one I'm hesitant to address outright, but I aim to be respectful." I can confirm that it is our goal for it to be the ideal fantasy land simulator. Given the passage of time, there are numerous paths to reach this aim."

In summary, Bethesda's message is clear: patience is essential for Elder Scrolls fans as they embark on the exciting adventure building up to Elder Scrolls 6. Meanwhile, the impending release of Starfield takes centre stage as the studio's primarily focus.
