Following their prior advise for manual console upgrades, Microsoft has released more tips to address the Baldur's Gate 3 save loss issue on Xbox Series X/S. The company has proposed workarounds while waiting for a future update built particularly to address the issue.
To reduce the risk of save data loss Microsoft recommends that players save their game before navigating to the Xbox dashboard and selecting either 'Quit Game' or 'Save to Quick Resume' from the game menu (Home, Game, Select, and then choose 'Save to Quick Resume' or 'Quit'). Users are advised to avoid disconnecting the console from power by using the'shut down' option from the console menu and remaining connected to power. Microsoft tells customers that a remedy for this problem is in the works and will be available as soon as possible.
Larian Studios' Director of Publishing, Michael Douse, acknowledged the problem's complexity, adding that it extends beyond a simple game patch. He did however, express hope that the future update will adequately fix the issue. Douse also promised gamers that the issue will not effect the Xbox retail edition which is planned to be released in the first quarter of 2024. This physical Deluxe Edition will be available for both the PS5 and PC.
Despite a technical delay, Larian's acclaimed RPG was released for Xbox Series X/S during The Game Awards, where it won six awards, including Game of the Year, Best Performance, Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, and Player's Voice.
