Nvidia surprised the gaming and tech worlds at CES 2025 with the announcement of its highly anticipated RTX 50 series, which includes the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090. The lineup promises ground-breaking performance, with the flagship RTX 5090 offering twice the power of its predecessor, the RTX 4090.
The Next Generation Powerhouse
The RTX 5090, which will be available on January 30 for $1,999, has an amazing 92 billion transistors and over 3,352 trillion AI operations per second. A demo showed Cyberpunk 2077 running at more over 200 FPS on maximum settings, a significant improvement above the RTX 4090's 100 FPS performance. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang referred to the new "Blackwell" architecture as the "most significant innovation in computer graphics since programmable shading."
Affordable Performance Options
Nvidia also provided more affordable options:
RTX 5080: $999; available in February.
RTX 5070 Ti: $750; available in February.
RTX 5070: $549, provides RTX 4090-level performance at a quarter of the cost.
DLSS 4, Laptop Revolution
The RTX 50 series introduces Nvidia DLSS 4, which uses AI to generate up to three frames every rendered frame, resulting in up to an 8x speed improvement. Beginning in March, RTX 50 GPUs will power laptops, with the RTX 5090 laptop GPU offering 24GB of GDDR7 memory for unmatched mobile performance.
