During the Capcom Next digital showcase, it was announced that Koshi Nakanishi, the director of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 7, will be directing the next edition in the Resident Evil series, which is largely assumed to be Resident Evil 9.
Nakanishi expressed his views on the new project, saying,
“It was difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
While Capcom has yet to formally announce Resident Evil 9, curiosity and reports regarding its development have increased. Notably, insider Dusk Golem, noted for reliable gaming leaks, speculated that Resident Evil 9 might be released in early 2025.
Dusk Golem mentioned,
“The possible delay I had heard murmurs about can be pushed aside,Resident Evil 9 should be revealed pretty soon and release next year. If what I heard previously holds true, it should be in January. It’ll have had about seven years in development.”
Dusk Golem also claimed that Resident Evil 9 began production in 2018, originally planned as the eighth chapter in the main series until Resident Evil Village took its place. There are also interesting signs that Resident Evil 9 may have open-world elements, expanding on the extended RE Engine capability shown in Dragon's Dogma 2 and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wild.
As interest grows, fans of the series eagerly anticipate additional information on what promises to be a significant and original addition to the Resident Evil name.
