Following the premature release of the GTA 6 announcement trailer on Monday, Rockstar Games has revealed new details about the highly anticipated game. According to a press release from parent firm Take-Two, GTA 6 will make its initial premiere on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, with no mention of a PC release.

This strategy is consistent with earlier titles in the franchise, such as Grand Theft Auto V and IV, which were first released on consoles before obtaining a PC port. GTA 4 took six months after its console release to come on PC, whilst GTA 5 took 18 months after its initial console release to arrive on PC.

Sam Houser, the Founder of Rockstar Games stated

"Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what's possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We're thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere."

GTA 6 will take place in the state of Leonida, which is touted as "home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond." Take-Two describes this entry as "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet."

Rockstar had planned to release the GTA 6 teaser on Tuesday, but an anonymous X (previously Twitter) user upset their plans on Monday by sharing a low-resolution and extensively watermarked version of the announcement video. Rockstar quickly produced an official version of the trailer in response to the leak, urging viewers to "watch the real thing on YouTube."

Expressing disappointment on social media, senior gameplay animator Javier Altman lamented the premature leak, revealing that it thwarted the development team's plans to watch the live reaction together. Altman wrote on X (formerly Twitter),

"This situation is frustrating. I was hoping to watch this for the first time tomorrow along with my fellow teammates and coworkers. I feel we deserved that moment."

Despite the setback, Altman conveyed pride in the project, stating,

"I'm so proud of what we are making. Enjoy the trailer, everyone."

Rockstar Games remains committed to providing a groundbreaking addition to the legendary brand as the gaming community excitedly awaits the release of GTA 6 and its promised immersive experience in the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond. The trailer's unexpected twists only serve to heighten anticipation for what is set to be a landmark chapter in the Grand Theft Auto tradition.
