Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a large acquisition of iSize, a UK-based AI business that focuses in deep learning for video delivery. This strategic acquisition intends to strengthen SIE's capabilities in video processing, streaming services, and research and development projects.

Through the power of artificial intelligence (AI), iSize's fundamental technology reduces the bandwidth requirements for streaming video games while simultaneously boosting the visual quality of video streaming material. This unique strategy promises not only a smoother and more efficient gaming experience, but also a solution for businesses looking to optimise their video distribution.

Furthermore, iSize owns cutting-edge "live photorealistic generative 2D/3D avatar technology." This one-of-a-kind feature shows the company's commitment to pushing the limits of what AI can achieve in the video streaming and gaming industries.

Senior Vice President of SIE Future Technology Group, Ueli Gallizzi, expressed excitement about the acquisition, saying, "The acquisition provides SIE with significant expertise in applying machine learning to video processing, which will benefit a range of our R&D efforts as well as our video and streaming services." SIE is better able to address the challenges and opportunities stood by the rapidly evolving ecosystem of video streaming and gaming thanks to iSize's deep-learning capabilities.

iSize, founded in 2016 and headquartered in London and has a talented team of engineers and technological experts that have developed a suite of software solutions aimed to optimise video streaming. One notable success is the development of an AI-based perceptual preprocessing system. This technology enables third-party encoders to produce higher-quality video at substantially lower bitrates, making it a game changer in the industry.

This purchase follows Sony Interactive Entertainment's commitment to cloud gaming. CEO Jim Ryan hinted earlier this year at "aggressive plans" in the cloud gaming space. Sony has been aggressively researching solutions to create seamless cloud gaming experiences. Although cloud-based gaming presents technical obstacles CEO Kenichiro Yoshida has stated that the company is committed to addressing these concerns, calling the technology as "very tricky" but a task they are willing to take on.

The acquisition of iSize by Sony Interactive Entertainment shows the company's commitment to remaining at the forefront of innovation in the gaming and video streaming sectors, with a focus on applying AI to improve the quality and efficiency of these services. This strategic approach is predicted to have a long-term impact on the industry's future.
