Sony recently revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro, an improved version of their popular PS5 platform that will delight both experienced gamers and newbies. The PS5 Pro, announced via a live stream by lead system architect Mark Cerny, promises major improvements in power, performance, and visual quality.
PlayStation 5 Pro Release Date and Price
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available starting November 7 for $700 / £700 / €800. It includes a 2TB SSD for greater storage capacity and a DualSense wireless controller. Physical game collectors will need to purchase a disc drive separately.
PlayStation 5 Pro Powerhouse Performance Upgrades
Under the hood, the PS5 Pro has a bigger GPU with 67% more Compute Units and 28% quicker memory than the original PlayStation 5. According to Sony, these changes result in a 45% increase in rendering performance, providing a smoother and more responsive gaming experience.
One of the system's notable features is its superior ray tracing capabilities, which Sony claims can produce in-game lighting effects up to three times faster than the original PS5. Additionally, the PlayStation 5 Pro includes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a machine learning-driven AI upscaling technique that delivers clearer and more detailed graphics.
PlayStation 5 Pro Backward Compatibility and Game Boosts
Sony has also introduced the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which improves over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 titles. This includes resolution and performance upgrades for select PS4 and PS5 games, allowing them to fully utilize the console's higher capability.
"Many of the games will benefit from the new hardware with updates designed to stabilize and improve their performance," Sony said. Certain PS4 titles will also have enhanced visual quality, allowing gamers to see higher resolutions than previously.
PlayStation 5 Pro A New Era of Gaming
Hideaki Nishino, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, gave insights into the PS5 Pro's development, emphasizing the company's close collaboration with game producers to bring this vision to life.
“We developed PS5 Pro with the demands of engaged players and creators in mind,” Nishino said. “Many of them have expressed their desire for a console that can deliver higher-fidelity graphics at smoother frame rates. We’re excited to see how developers are embracing the technology, with several games receiving free updates to support the Pro's enhanced features.”
Games Enhanced for PS5 Pro
A growing number of games will be optimized for the PlayStation 5 Pro, including Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Demon's Souls, Gran Turismo 7, Alan Wake 2, and many others. Horizon Forbidden West, for example, will now operate in 4K at 60FPS, whereas The Last of Us Part II Remastered aims for a super-smooth 60FPS for an even more immersive experience.
PlayStation 5 Pro Consistent Design
The PS5 Pro follows the same design language as the other PS5 models. It has the same height as the original PS5, but the same width as the newer PS5 model, allowing it to fit effortlessly into any existing arrangement.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is the latest step in Sony's commitment to provide cutting-edge gaming experiences. Whether you choose the normal PS5 or the PS5 Pro, Sony's latest console promises to take your gameplay to the next level. The future of gaming appears brighter, quicker, and sharper than before.
