Square Enix has revealed the first story DLC for Final Fantasy 16 called "Echoes of the Fallen," as well as a sneak peek at a second expansion set to come on the PlayStation 5 next year.
Echoes of the Fallen, available on the PlayStation Store for $9.99 / £7.99, provides a new narrative quest accessible after unlocking Origin on the world map and completing the Where There's a Will and Priceless quests.
The official description sets the stage, stating,
"As the sun sets over the land of Valisthea, strange, dark crystals begin to circulate on the black market. Could they be the sinister fruit of a long-slumbering Mothercrystal—one the world never knew existed? Setting out in search of answers, Clive and company encounter a group of suspicious traders. Their trail leads them to a long-abandoned Fallen tower known as the Sagespire and the terrible secrets that await within…"
In addition to the riveting tale, the DLC allows players to wield Cloud Strife's sword from Final Fantasy 7. Gamers can also immerse themselves in the Hideaway hub area by listening to the vintage background music of Away (1987) Orchestrion Roll.
A second tale extension titled "The Rising Tide" is set to be released in spring 2024. Players can choose to purchase the Final Fantasy 16 Expansion Pass, which includes both DLC packs, for $24.99 / £19.99.
The lack of a single pricing for The Rising Tide suggests a potentially more significant offering than Echoes of the Fallen. Notably, Square Enix earlier announced plans for a PC version of Final Fantasy 16, which is presently in development, in September.
