The Road to GTA 6: Take-Two's 2025 Pivot Reveals Potential Release

The Road to GTA 6: Take-Two's 2025 Pivot Reveals Potential Release

The latest financial report from Take-Two Interactive has revealed intriguing details regarding the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) release. While the report only mentions GTA 6, verifying that active development is "well underway," it mimics the language used by Rockstar when the game was first announced over a year ago. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, has, nevertheless, gently hinted that a huge event is on the horizon for the 2025 fiscal year, hinting a probable release of the eagerly anticipated GTA sequel.

During the same event, Take-Two defended their price plan for the Red Dead Redemption Switch port.

According to Take-Two's forward-looking estimates, GTA 6 is unlikely to be released during the 2024 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2024. This confirms past predictions, as an early release seemed highly unlikely. Strauss Zelnick's veiled comment indicates to the fiscal year 2025, which runs from April 2024 to March 2025, as a critical moment that will see an increase in operational performance. This comment corresponds well with the expected release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated games presently in production.

Meanwhile, Take-Two's primary priority appears to be maximising the value of its existing game library. This strategy is motivated by the enormous earnings earned by its live-service games, particularly Grand Theft Auto Online and NBA 2K23. The company's continuous emphasis on a live-service model includes developing "season passes and DLC packs" for important titles, devising post-launch monetization strategies for each new release, and even introducing select free-to-play titles for gaming consoles.

On February 4, 2022, Rockstar Games announced "a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series" via a Twitter post. Despite early plans to keep information about the upcoming GTA game under wraps, new leaks have emerged. However, before we go into that, let's go over the information obtained from official sources.

The research highlights the impact of Take-Two's acquisition of Zynga in 2022, with a renewed emphasis on mobile gaming. Take-Two's interest in moving some of its key titles to the mobile platform, as well as adapting select mobile games for consoles and PCs, is highlighted in the study.

While the investor report mentions planned projects from Take-Two's various divisions, such as collaborations with Weta Workshop and Pokemon producer Game Freak, exact release dates are conspicuously absent. Take-Two has declared that release dates for the fiscal years 2025 and 2026 will be published in its Q4 2024 report, signalling a wait for more information. Ideally, Rockstar will reveal additional details about GTA 6 before that date.
