Treyarch has officially revealed what Zombies players will get when Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 is released later this month. The season, which launches on January 28, includes an extensive list of upgrades, including the popular new Zombies map The Tomb.
The new map promises a complete and unsettling experience. Treyarch teased the storyline, stating:
"After surviving the horrific events at Citadelle des Morts, Weaver, Grey, Carver, and Maya follow Gabriel Krafft’s final words to a nearby excavation site to secure the Sentinel Artifact. Built on the remains of ancient burial grounds with origins dating back to 2500 B.C.E., these catacombs lay undisturbed for centuries until the early 1900s. What lies beneath may run deeper than anyone ever imagined."
Treyarch compared The Tomb to the popular Liberty Falls map, describing it as an immersive environment with smaller play spaces and an intense focus on replayability. The map will also have side Easter Eggs and a revamped Wonder Weapon based on the series' original designs.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 Zombies Updates
In addition to the new map, Treyarch is rolling out a number of quality-of-life changes for Zombies gamers.
Challenge Tracker for both the Zombies and Multiplayer modes.
Separate HUD Presets for Zombies and Multiplayer.
Co-op Pause enables smoother gameplay during cooperative sessions.
AFK Kick Loadout Recovery reduces disruptions.
Player Engagement Milestones
Since the release of Black Ops 6 on October 25, 2024, users have spent an incredible 480 million hours in Zombies mode. Directed Mode, which was introduced on November 14, has improved accessibility by offering on-screen objectives to assist players in completing the main mission.
Treyarch reported that after the release of Directed Mode, the main mission completion rate has increased from 3.38% to 8.23%—a big improvement but still far from their ideal goal. “Over 90% of players haven’t completed a main quest yet,” the studio acknowledged. “Our mission continues, but we’re proud of these results and excited to welcome more players into the fold with this new feature. Onward and upward!”
With the launch of Season 2, Treyarch continues to innovate and expand the Black Ops Zombies experience, offering both new and seasoned players fresh challenges and deeper lore. Fans can look forward to exploring The Tomb and diving into the improved features when Season 2 debuts on January 28, 2025.
